This Weeks #ntchat: Conservation in the Classroom
Bringing conservation topics to the classroom can be a challenge for many teachers, that’s why this week we are welcoming Susan Fulginiti of Georgia-Pacific to join our weekly New Teacher Chat #ntchat to talk about how Georgia-Pacific is bringing conservation to the classroom.
GP has practiced conservation throughout their history. As a forest products company they use a renewable resource, fiber from trees, to make most of their products. It’s essential to their business to sustain these resources and be a good environmental steward. For example, GP has four pulp and paper mills that take part in the Wildlife Habitat Council’s (WHC) Wildlife at Work(SM) program. This program helps companies and other landowners manage their lands for the benefit of wildlife by providing opportunities to promote conservation education in the communities they run.
Their main resource for sharing is Educational in Nature®, an environmental education program developed more than 10 years ago. As part of the program GP developed activities and lesson plans for 4th and 5th grade students and teachers about energy, products from trees, paper recycling and chemistry. EIN was recently updated to include more interactive games for students. Teachers can get these resources for free at www.gp.com/nature
Throughout the chat on Wednesday, GP hopes to hear more from teachers about what type of resources work best for them so Georgia-Pacific can take those insights and continue to evolve their programs. Their main goal in joining the chat is to increase overall knowledge about the importance of conservation, and how to do this more often in the classroom.
Please join us on Wednesday night, 10/17 at 8pm ET/5pm PT for this New Teacher Chat on Conservation in the Classroom. We’ll also have special Georgia-Pacific Swag to give away, too!
