New Teacher Chat Give-Away:Win a set of Flagbees!

“Bee” My Valentine Flagbee Give-Away!

In my years of work as a Principal and now as a Consultant and Coach to new teachers, the biggest issue that I find new teachers grapple with is classroom management. As a new teacher you are working hard to design a classroom environment that is friendly, supportive and engaging. Along the way, though, you  also are searching for tools and tips to support the way that you work with students to insure that every one is enthusiastically engaged and not negatively distracted. Enter the Flagbee.

What is a Flagbee?

Flagbee is a multifunctional classroom management device that attaches to a student’s desk. When a student is in need of assistance, the specially designed Flagbee can rotate up on its swivel to an upright position. This quiet signal for help minimizes class disruptions and notifies the teacher that help is needed, while keeping the students on task to continue working. A teacher can use different colored Flagbees and flags to differentiate instruction, group students, and easily organize your classroom.

Take a minute to watch the Flagbee in action!

Meet Rita Suppes

Rita Rea Suppes at home with her daughter, Molly, and dog, Sally.

Rita Rea Suppes, is the co-creator of Flagbee.  She’s a busy Mom, Third Grade teacher, talented educator and active on Twitter @Flagbeeinfo. Here is what Rita has to say about this great tool that she created: I have used Flagbee in my third grade classroom for the past five years, and I would never dream of conducting a class without them.  My students value their own personal  desktop helper, and I appreciate the many uses of Flagbee everyday.  Upon receiving my Masters degree, I was inspired to share Flagbee with other teachers. We redesigned the product, located a manufacturer and decided to offer Flagbee at market.  This versatile tool provides a wide variety of classroom management opportunities to simplify daily tasks. I invite you to try it. I know you and your students will love Flagbee!

Wow, these are a great idea. My students currently use red and yellow cards (like a referee), yellow if they need help but can keep working for a while, red if its more urgent. This works well but students struggle to ‘display’ the cards – flagbees would solve that problem in a second!

I would definitely use these during test time, so students worry less about distractions and causing distractions and focus on the task. I might also use these for when students have a question but it isn’t an emergency.

I can see these tools helping with the “popcorn” effect. You know, when one child has a question and comes up to you and then everyone else sees it’s okay to come up after that. I think it will also allow the students to really think about their questions before sending up the flag. Rita is a very talented and generous teacher.
