Gotta Keep Reading! Summer Book Reads for Teachers

I love to read!

I’m sure like many other educators out there, you do too!

On Wednesday, May 30, which is our day for New Teacher Chat, we had an amazing discussion on the topic of Summer Reading for teachers. We often share the need for our students to do this in summer, but may forget how important it is for us to hunker down and get OUR reading on too.

Educators both new and experienced had a great time chatting about books they are planning to read this summer for fun and professional growth. They also shared ways that they plan to capture their great reads to potentially share the knowledge gained with colleagues and students in the Fall.

Many ideas were shared as to how to be sure to grab great ideas from our reads such as the use of post-it notes, journals and my personal favorite: Evernote. We also emphasized the fact that we need to read for fun!

As a result of this vibrant discussion we created a list of great Summer Reads! (The list includes both professional and non-professional book choices.)

Click on the link below to see the great list generated by #ntchat-ers and other educators in my PLN who contributed and get to planning your summer reading!

Do you have a fave book to share? Leave me a comment with the title and I will add it to the Google Doc!

How will you get your reading on this summer? I’d love you to share it in a comment!

One of the ways I inspire my kids to read this summer is to commit to reading some of the same books. I ask students about a list of books they consider “must reads.”

I have committed to reviewing a few of them on my blog – or on some others.

Modeling is an amazing thing :).
