I am passionate about Leadership!

I spent 14 years as an Elementary School Principal and 5 years as a Project Director of a Title VII Language and Literacy program. 19 years in Leadership that were exciting but often times, very challenging.

In that time, as a building, program and instructional leader, my leadership style was one of collaboration. Not an easy task as a friend recently pointed out at dinner, but one that I feel very strongly about. I also spent many hours mentoring women to also share in my passion for Leadership. One of them finally had the courage to get her administrative credential, another is a Vice Principal and still, another is now a Principal. It was a charge for me that I took on boldly, and sometimes I was met with resistance by the women themselves. Fortunately, I tend to be very convincing and persuasive in my mentoring, as any of my mentee’s will tell you.

Watching Sheryl Sandberg in this TED Talk, once again, ignited in me that passion for leadership. It’s a flame that, if not tended, can burn out due to stress, frustration or any number of other issues that women who choose to take positions of  leadership are confronted with. Our challenges as women are so very different from men, and Sandberg does an excellent job of sharing  just what some of those are.

If you are a woman in Leadership, or someone supporting a woman in Leadership, take the time to listen to this Ted Talk.  You will be  better informed, inspired, and ignited because of it.

Pay close attention to Sandberg’s THREE concerns and ask yourself this question: Are you helping or are you hindering, Women to take a Seat at the Table?

Ultimately, I ask you to join me and help and support women who have a passion to lead, because there are just too few woman leaders…in education.
