The 30 Goals Song of the Week~I still believe…do you?
For today’s 30 Goals song of the week I have chosen this song: I believe in Father Christmas.
I have always been moved by this song, since the first time I heard it.
It was written by Greg Lake the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Lake wrote this song in the 1990’s as an objection to the commercialism of Christmas.Things sure haven’t changed much, have they.
He was concerned then as many of us are now, that the true spirit of Christmas was being lost in the marketing of the holiday.
Many people misinterpreted it as an anti-religious song, and he thought it wouldn’t go over well as a single. It was his only solo hit!
When interviewed by Mojo magazine about the song, Lake said : “I find it appalling when people say it’s politically incorrect to talk about Christmas, you’ve got to talk about ‘The Holiday Season.’ Christmas was a time of family warmth and love. There was a feeling of forgiveness, acceptance. And I do believe in Father Christmas.”
This version of the song was performed by the group Vertical Horizon. I like the sound of it. It causes me to stop and reflect on my feelings of the season and what it really means to me.
As I continue to challenge you to find your theme song, give this one a listen. Pay particular attention to the lyrics at the end…
PEACE

CONNECT WITH ME
What an amazing song. Thank you so much for sharing. As I am puttering around the house, thinking of what I just heard, I am suddenly remembering the images, smells, feelings of my Christmases. This song has, in one fell swoop, helped me remember what Christmas is to me, and I am committed to making that my Christmas. Perhaps this song is my visit from the spirit of Christmas past. Thanking you for bringing it into my present.
Merry Christmas!
