#MentoringMonday An Article a Day…Might Just Save Your Teaching Life

A Guest Post by A Teacher’s Life, Natashia J. Hill @MsNJH23 on Twitter.

Thanks to Douglas Rice and Lisa Dabbs, I discovered a very cool idea today–a month-long article reading schedule. Douglas Rice focuses on the business world and after looking at his idea; I said, “Hey…I want to do that too.” And I did.

I tried to put together a collection of articles that would inform, inspire, and give teachers something to contemplate. It was a challenge to find items that spoke to me and will hopefully speak to you as well. I picked each item with loving care and I hope that each selection elicits a conversation and/or some level of change in your teacher-leader lives. (Thanks Mr. Troy Byrne for giving me my 1st article suggestion.)

I hope you enjoy the fruits of my labor. You know what they say, “A professional article a day keeps the teacher teaching one more day.” [Okay, so I totally made that up. Nevertheless, it does not make my wish for teachers to stay critical and current any less true.]

P.S. Please feel free to let me know what you think of my selections. I am thinking of using a concept like this as a daily reading/conversation starter with my AP English students. I would love to have a conversation with you about these readings.

P.P.S. Sharing is caring, so please share this list of readings with a teacher you love. :-)

Would love your comments on this idea. Thoughts? Thanks for reading!

This is an awesome find on my part. I am looking forward to see the list compilied for New Teachers. I am working on my dissertation which is all about mentoring for new teachers so I try to follow you as much as possible. I am a substitute teacher K-12 and hope to be an active teacher one day.

Great idea! Do you know if there is any way to offer this calendar as an RSS feed? I would love to subscribe and get one article delivered each day! Or maybe you can do that with the next month 😉

Wow…this is a great idea. I think this is something that needs thought in terms of how many would be interested in receiving content this way and about the best way to make this happen. Do you think a daily message would be well received by a number of educators and wouldn’t bog their emails down in the hub bub of the day?

Good point. But if it is offered both ways, then the people who would want daily articles could just decide to opt in. If you create a blog dedicated to this project, you would be able to publish one article per day and people would be able to subscribe via email or RSS. But since you have your content for the month already set, you could try some type of automated publishing tool. That is an area I can’t really speak to, but I know there are tools that will allow you to load up content and schedule publishing of that context over different periods of time.

I really love your idea and I am going to give it some thought. I’m still pretty new to blogging and I would need to work out the logistics of making this a possibility. I’m not sure if there is enough time to set this up for August. However, I appreciate your feedback and please know that I am taking your suggestions seriously. Thanks so much. 🙂
