Goal 29:Reach out…Present your Ideas at a Conference! #30goals

In July 2010, I received the announcement via email that my proposal to the Annual ASCD11 Conference, “Beyond the Classroom Walls in a Globalized  World” , had been accepted! I had not been able to attend ASCD in quite some time, so this was a huge honor for me. This year’s conference was held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

I was fortunate to have my good friend and colleague, Joan Young , join me as a Co-Presenter. What an amazing experience for us to share our passion for connecting globally with some enthusiastic participants at this conference. If I had not taken the time to heed the call for proposals and then taken the time to prepare one…I would not have had this inspiring opportunity! I will be writing a separate post about our actual ASCD11 presentation experience, upcoming. But, for today, just a little #30Goals post to continue to share with you what the power of Goal 29:Presenting your Ideas, can have on your work as an educator. I’m still reliving the memories of our time at ASCD11 daily and inspired to present again soon!

Post presentation

Goal: Embrace the movement towards educational reform. Make a commitment to submit a conference proposal. Do it for at least 1 upcoming educational conference. Do it with a friend! Or…start by leading a PD in your school or district. How will you do it? When will you do it? Share your proposal with a trusted friend or colleague.

Check out Shelly Terrell’s Present your Ideas post:  http://teacherbootcamp.edublogs.org/2011/03/24/goal-29-present-your-ideas-30goals/(Shelly had planned to join me at ASCD, but was unable to make the trip…and unfortunately Wifi not stable for Skype.)

Challenge: 1) Join The Teacher Mentoring Project on The EduPLN. 2) Support new teachers at Edutopia.org by responding to their questions and concerns. 3) Take the step toward presenting PD or presenting at a conference! Support someone else to do the same.

Presenting at conference is an awesome experience (though I’ve only presented at smaller ones than ASCD). And the funny thing is that although I had come to present, I learned a lot not only from the questions and reactions of the audience but also from converstations with people after the presentation.
I’m sure the people who attended your session were glad they did!
may there be many more conferences !
